Happening Lately – NYC Edition

We just got back to Arizona after spending a few glorious weeks in New York. I love and miss that city so much. We saw great friends, ate delicious foods, and walked more than we’ve walked here in a year (sad to say it – that needs to change!).

We watched fireworks on the 4th at Brooklyn Bridge Park right on the water with the skyline and Lady Liberty as the backdrop. It was magical!

I also bought a few new things while we were in town. These natural leather Birks are AMAZING in person. Two of my friends had them and the leather darkens and wears in so beautifully after a few months of wear. And without the big buckles, they are a little less chunky than normal Birkenstocks. Worth the splurge! The red slingbacks are my favorite cheap purchase lately and my friend gifted me a pair of these Loeffler Randall D’Orsay flats and they are so, so gorgeous and beautifully made.

These two tunic-style tops were on heavy rotation while we were on our trip. They are comfortable and breathe really well which is nice for both living in the oven that is the Arizona desert and the humid NYC subways alike!

I brought my new K. Slade carry-all with me to NYC because I love that it holds EVERYTHING and it can be worn as a cross body bag. I especially love the navy and camel leather combo, the tiny monogram and of course the great tassels!

Michael and I had some work projects to do while we were in the city. I am designing two brownstone projects right now and we had the walls painted and refinished the floors in one of the homes while I was in town. I’m always blown away at how much bigger a space feels with lighter floors and walls!

More to come from this beautiful project soon! We are back home now and I’m feeling rested and inspired and ready to get back to work and wrap up the last of these big summer installs. I’m actually loading up the car today and headed up to Portland to finish up a cabin project we’ve been working on for a long time. (Follow me on snapchat and Insta @jennykomenda for lots of behind the scenes!) I can’t wait to share these photos with you! Here’s a little sneak peek from our last site visit. OBSESSED with the olive green cabinets!

We’re going to do a HUGE print out of one of Kate’s amazing new art prints in the cabin. She’s selling super affordable digital downloads here. Isn’t this a great shot? I want this one in my own house.

Love the bag! Is the tassel included or is that extra?

    • Jenny

It’s a little extra, but FULLY worth it! Two for one! :)

  2. Julie P

Omg I’m lovin on the olive green kitchen!! Can’t wait for the full Portland cabin reveal! When you post everything I’m hoping for sources on the color, the cabinet hardware, the sink, the faucet, the countertop… Basically everything.

    • Jenny

Thanks Julie! It’s been a really fun project! We’re having a blast here tonight – styling away! Photos in the morning. :)

  3. Lisa Fairchild-Cox

I love the wall paper i the photo of your daughter reading a book in bed. Please could you tell me the source for this?

    • Jenny

      It’s by Abigail Edwards –http://www.abigailedwards.com/product/seascape-wallpaper-winter/

You can also get it through Anthropologie I think! xo

  4. Noreen

I’m loving the gorgeous photo you linked for your huge print art project. Any tips for printing/doing a print project like that in my own home? You’ve probably done a post on it before! :)

    • Jenny

Post coming up!! Stay tuned!! xoxoxo

  5. Ilene

This is great. I would love to know about the hardware and the sink faucet in the olive kitchen. I would also love to hear your thoughts on black hardware, is that a trend? Do you recommend it be bronze or steel? Any advice would be helpful and suggestions of where to get online would be great. Thanks!

    • Jenny

I think black is the new brass right now. It is a little trendy, but I love it a lot and it’s hard to imagine black ever not being chic. The pulls are from Lews and the faucet is Signature Hardware.

  6. Gorgeous photos of your family! I’m obsessed with that natural woven rug. Do you think it would do okay outdoors? I’d love to have a big rug for our concrete back patio.

    • Jenny

It’s a natural jute, which will mold over time. Probably better to do something synthetic that you can hose off and even use a light bleach solution once a year.

  7. rosemary willman

love the three faucet sink is it original to the cabin?

    • Jenny

It’s the Brockway sink from Kohler :)

  8. Suzi

I love this post! I would love to know the color of that hardwood flooring? it’s beautiful.
    Thank you!

    • Jenny

The cabin flooring is Early American stain and the brownstone wood was stained in Natural. xo

  9. D Yager

Hello, I had researched that Kohler sink for my kids bath. The faucet that you used, that comes with the sink, is NOT lead free. If it will be used for tooth brushing and midnight sips of water, there is another faucet that works for that sink that is safe. Good luck.

  10. Absolutely love the color in the bedroom and that bedside lamp is to die for! Amazing .

  11. maureen ficken

Love the rug!! Where is it from?

    • Jenny

We got it a while back from Anthropologie. It’s a beauty!

  12. Love the bag! Wish it came in all tan. ;-(

The black tile in the brownstone bathroom looks great! Looking forward to seeing more!

    Jenny,
I LOVE the olive kitchen! Would you share more about the shiplap backsplash? I want to do that in our remodel, but someone told me you have to use a concrete or heat-resistant shiplap behind the oven. Is that true? Did you paint it in a super wipe-able paint. Just so curious over here:) Thanks!

    • Jenny

      Hi Kristen,

We were all okay with doing shiplap behind the stove because this is a cabin and the oven is used a LOT less often than in a primary residence. I would probably used a different material – like a powdercoated to match sheet of steel – just behind your range?

We used a semi-gloss paint to make everything easy to clean up! Hope that helps! xo

  14. Annie

I spy artwork from Olivia! Thanks for the post Jenny!

  15. Rae

Wow!! Do you have a source for that sconce/lamp? CUTE.

    • Jenny

The sconces are from Rejuvenation :)

  16. Leigh H

Love the bag so much. Is the leather good quality – not fading, color not rubbing off? Is it comfortable across the body? It looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

    • Jenny

The leather is really beautiful – I’m so pleased with the quality! The cross body strap is probably not the most comfortable strap just because it is thinner, but it’s not uncomfortable either. I usually have 5-10 pounds of stuff in my bag between tape measures and notebooks and I wear it all the time as a cross body. I think you’ll love it!

  17. Aidel.K

I love seeing all the interiors, of course, that’s why I visit LGN–but NYC!!! Your post makes me miss it so much. What fun to have such a big chunk of time there. It’s great seeing all the photos.

  18. Whitney

I just went swimming at Packsaddle Lake while visiting Yellowstone! I think that print will make a perfect gift for my sister-in-law who LOVED the lake.

  19. Great blog. Fully informative. Thank for blog.
